The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Paresa Kouhestani

Amazon Prime has started a new Pilot Season and to stay I'm excited would be an understatement. Last summer, Amazon started a competition where they made 5-10 pilot episodes and asked Amazon Prime users to vote on their favorite. The winners would be given a first season on Amazon Prime. They recently released five new shows and I've started with The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I will say I'm super biased towards starting with this show because it was created, written and directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino, creator of Gilmore Girls, one of my all-time favorite shows!

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel takes place in New York City during the late 1950s. It follows a young Jewish couple, Miriam and Joel Maisel, who are trying to balance living on the Upper West Side and Joel's passion for stand-up comedy.

The fast pace, long monologue and witty commentary are very similar to Gilmore Girls, and it doesn't disappoint. Rachel Brosnahan as Miriam is truly fantastic--honestly she is so talented and it's crazy to see how different this role is for her compared to her previous roles in House of Cards and small roles here and there. I hope the show gets picked up because it's amazing! Why are you still reading this?! Watch it here now!

Spring TV Shows To Get Excited About

Paresa Kouhestani

Spring is finally upon us and with that comes new seasons of our favorite shows and new shows we've only heard about, but have yet to experience. I've put together a list of new seasons to get excited about and a couple new shows I've been (some-what patiently) been waiting to see. Enjoy!

Premiere Date: April 21

Familiar Faces: newbie cast, Charlize Theron (producer)

Network: Netflix

For Fans Of: The Devil Wears Prada, Project Runway

The series tells the tale of Sophio Amoruso, founder of Nasty Gal. From selling vintage clothing on eBay as a young 20 something to becoming CEO of a huge online retailer. I recommend reading her novel, also titled GIRLBOSS, before watching the show or listening to her podcast.

Premiere Date: April 26

Familiar Faces: Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls), Elizabeth Moss (Mad Men), Max Minghella (The Social Network)

Network: Hulu

For Fans Of: The Divergent Series, The Hunger Games Series

I'm interested to see how they tell this tale over 10 episodes. I read the book in high school and it's very.....different/weird/futuristic. Let's just say if you're a hard core feminist--not sure you'll be really into the story.

Premiere Date: May 12
